MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman.

Or so she thinks… until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone - Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed - a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Barrons, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless V'lane - an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women - closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book - because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

Opening Sentence: My philosophy is pretty simple - any day nobody's trying to kill me is a good day in my book.

Review:
Warning: This is an adult paranormal book

OME! But do I have a new book boyfriend. Welcome to the club Barrons. 'Darkfever' by Karen Marie Moning was a welcome surprise. I specifically got this book because of the review by Giselle from .Xpresso Reads (you can see her review here). She definitely has one of the blogs that I stalk the most and if she says that the series only gets better from here on out (and this book already blew me away) I can only imagine what the other four are going to do to me.

Okay, so for the review.

Wow! What can I say. It is hard for me to collect my thoughts on this one. That's why it has taken me a few days for me to get this review to you all. 'Darkfever' from page one grabbed my attention. Just the voice of MacKayla (Mac) was unforgettable, unforgiving and undeniably addicting. I will be the first to admit, that usually girly girl types who love everything to be pink or not my favorite of characters, but for her, it just worked. And I loved how every few chapters or so, she would foretell something that wouldn't happen until the next books but would only give enough away to have you panting to find out what was going to happen next. Like what the heck is going to happen between her and V'lane? Hmmmm. Oh V'lane, how I hate your character but still desire to know what really lies behind that smocking smile.

And talking about totally HOT guys (starts to drool profusely) have any of you heard of a guy named Barrons? Well if you haven't I highly suggest you pick up this little book called 'Darkfever' and become acquainted with his dark, smoldering amazingness. (faints from to much exposure). =D

This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, devouring its pages so I could see what was going to happen next. Not a once could I foretell and see what was going to happen. Especially not between Barrons and Mac. While I highly wish a little more sexiness would have happened with them, I can't say I am disappointed because for a heck of a lot of this book they really didn't like one another and even at the end of this book there was still some hostility there, even if he did paint her nails. That only has be craving to find out what will (if anything) happen between them in 'Bloodfever'.

After finishing this review I am going to rush over to bn.com so that I can order my very own copy of book two, 'Bloodfever'. If you haven't read this one yet, I highly recommend that you do. While it is the first none YA book I have read in a while, I am soooo glad that I gave it a chance. Thanks Giselle for tempting me to get this book. You rock girl. What are you waiting for, go get your own copy. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I also really enjoyed this book. The series gets better and better with each book. There will be a spinoff series coming soon. The author will then revisit Mac once she finishes up the spinoff. :)

@Oh! Paper Pages: That just makes me even happier. Can't wait to slowly grow my collection of Fever books. I hope Barrons stays just as sexy in all the books. LOL. =D
