HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO?

All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way to far... and almost doesn't make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge - and over...

Opening Sentence: "That's the worst idea I ever heard," I told Eric. Then I took another sip of beer and swallowed. "Let's do it."

Review:

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols was a cute little read. At only 240 pages I easily finished this book in less than a day. This is truly a coming of age story, about learning how to let go and move on when life has dealt you a pretty crappy hand.

Both Meg and John are pretty damaged characters. They are both trying to learn how to let go of their past's and learn how to live a fulfilling, regret free future. John, while always having been a part of Meg's life in a small fashion (they both lived in a small town and went to the same High School together), really comes into her life at a pivotal moment for her. He is determined to teach her a lesson she will never forget because she dared step foot on "his" bridge. However, Meg is not the kind of person to be pushed around and told what to do. And she is equally determined to show him he still has a lesson to learn as well.

Have I mentioned yet that he's an older guy. And a Cop.... Oh yea, he's an older guy and a cop. Which definitely complicates things when they start to fall for each other. Considering she is still in High School.

After being found drunk and high, Meg is sentenced to spend 5 days (over-night) riding around with John while he's on duty. And at the end of those 5 days she must report back with a campaign to help teach other teenagers to not make the same mistakes she has.

To make a short story... well short, Meg and John come to learn about themselves even more through each other's eyes. And learn that the way they have been living their lives have put them both on a destructive path. This is a sweet story about learning how to trust one's heart and putting everything you have into making the best out of life. While there could be some definite improvement on some parts of the story, all together, it was a really enjoyable read. I look forward to reading some more of Jennifer Echols books.

It was my first jennifer Echols read, and I just fell in love with her writing. It is so sweet, fun, and enjoyable yet she does manage to throw in a message here and there. I liked it a lot. Nicely said :)

This is my favorite Jennifer Echols book (Such A Rush is a close second.) I really love this story and the characters. And I agree that the story isn't absolutely perfect, it's close, and there are only a few things I would change. And I really love saying Johnafter...
